Ruhr University Bochum (Germany) and Erasmus University Rotterdam signed a partnership agreement on the establishment of a joint doctorate in 2015.
The agreement was aimed at collaboration between the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE) at Ruhr University and the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) at Erasmus University in the field of development studies.
The joint doctorate has led to collaboration between PhD researchers and senior academic staff at both institutes. Two PhD researchers (Raffael Beier and Anne Siebert) graduated with a joint doctorate from Ruhr and Erasmus Universities in 2019.
European Joint Doctorate
The collaboration between IEE and ISS has meanwhile led to a proposal on a European Joint Doctorate, which has resulted in funding from the Marie Sklodowska Curie Action on Innovative Training Networks.
The programme ADAPTED (Eradicating Poverty: Pathway towards Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals) started in February 2021 and will train 15 PhD students between 2021 and 2024.
ADAPTED partner universities are: Bogacizi University (Istanbul, Turkey), University of Paris (France) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (The Netherlands).
