The world cannot afford the same approach to the next pandemic and needs to address structural issues that determine vulnerability and impact.
This is one of the key points that Professor Peter van Bergeijk made in his presentation to the Public Policy Lessons conference - Part of the After the Pandemic conference series held on 12 and 13 November.
Based on his publication, Pandemic Economics, van Bergeijk also argued that the key problem of the pandemic is not death, but avoiding the meltdown of healthcare. He argues that we cannot afford the same response to the next pandemic and suggests that we need to protect the healthcare sector.
