The International Institute of Social Studies hosted two well-attended alumni meetings in November in Ethiopia and Tanzania.
Attended by a large number of former ISS students, the meetings provided an opportunity for alumni to catch up with each other and reconnect with ISS.
Following a few introductory words by Professor Inge Hutter (ISS rector), Dr Zemzem Shigute and Dr Binyam Afewerk Demena updated the alumni on ISS activities in Eastern Africa. These include joint PhD programmes, joint research projects and cooperation with several universities and research institutes in the region.
Representatives of the Dutch embassies attended the alumni meetings, presenting the work they do.
Both in Tanzania and Ethiopia, former students and their ISS hosts can look back on a successful and enjoyable get-together with the important role of alumni in the future of ISS once again brought to the fore.
