The idea of regionalism is connected essentially to the transformation of the state, which implies that regional development policies have been incorporated into national governance without the creation of strong, centralized regional governance. This process the enables states to embrace the political project of regionalism, without transferring power to regional institutions.

Ome Chattranond's research has found that emerging marketization of water for energy through so-called ‘regulatory regionalism’ is an essential element of hydropower development in the Lower Mekong Basin, especially in Laos.

The ceremony for the Public Defence will begin promptly at 16.00 hrs at ISS, Kortenaerkade 12, The Hague. The doors will be closed after the start of the Public Defence, but will be briefly opened after the candidate’s introduction to allow latecomers to enter.

The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the Atrium of the ISS

Professors are invited to join the academic procession.
