The Programme is pure quality
Dang Vu Thanh
What is your background?
I have a BA in Economics, with specialization in Commerce. I have a 4-year experience in conducting economic research and projects for various stakeholders, from the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam to the HCMC Council and several universities. The studies that I have been involved in range from the topic of global value chain, e-government, smart cities, financial inclusion, energy and environment.
Why did you choose VNP?
My professor, who is an alumnus at VNP – a collaboration programme between UEH and ISS, recommended the Programme to me, claiming it to be the best research Programme in the country. At the time, I wanted to further advance my research career, and felt like I was missing a good chunk of knowledge and skills necessary to become a competent researcher. I looked up VNP and ISS and decided to choose the Programme for the following reasons:
- International reputation
- Solid alumni network, many of whom established in their respective industry
- Experienced and credible faculty with strong research output
- Opportunities for PhD scholarship
'If you want to learn about the ins and outs of economics ... this is the place for you.'
How will this Programme help you in the future?
I learned 2 things from the Programme: knowledge about development economics and research skills.
The coursework is taught by some the leading experts in their areas, which helped me learn a lot about the theoretical landscape of development, from both the micro and macro perspectives, as well as the insights of how to apply them in combating daily problems. I also learned how to read manuscripts, formulate models, operate research software and put everything together in writing form. I can produce higher quality research now than I used to, which helps me apply for more prestigious positions in universities and other institutions.
Would you recommend VNP/ISS to others?
Absolutely. The Programme is pure quality and I have received lots of help from faculty and staff members along the way. If you want to learn about the ins and outs of economics, and how to do proper research to tackle an issue, this is the place for you.
