The Development Dialogue is happy to introduce an academic blogging workshop this year as part of the conference.
The workshop will take place before the conference; its central aim is to train workshop participants in writing academic blog articles. With further individual mentoring and tailored advice provided by Lize Swartz, editor of ISS blog Bliss, participants will then be able to draft an academic blog article that will be published on Bliss as part of a Development Dialogue blog series.
What you'll learn
The workshop will cover:
- the value of academic blogging
- how it differs from other forms of academic writing
- what a good (read: interesting, provocative, or intriguing) blog article looks like
- how to go about writing it
Tips and tricks will be shared, as well as the do’s and don’ts of writing academic blog articles and how and where to share the article after it has been published online to ensure that it is read, understood and engaged with.
After the workshop, participants will put their newly acquired knowledge into practice to develop their academic blogging skills. Participants will be mentored individually throughout the drafting of their blog article to ensure that the main message and relevance of the article for specific audiences is clear. The article will then be published on ISS blog BlISS and will be shared on social media and through other channels.
