Biography
Salomey Gyamfi Afrifa is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherland. Her research focuses on governance, policy, institutions, and human agency and socio -Economic policy Interventions which offers both theoretical depth and practical relevance, for promoting well-informed policy decisions based on evidence. She bridges theoretical insights and practical applications, aiming to inform and enhance development policy and practice.
Currently, she contributes to the “Vital Cities and Citizens” project with the objective exploring how residents of informal settlements transform and (re)vitalize the spatial, social, economic, and institutional environment surrounding them. She collaborates with local governments, Non-governmental and community-based organizations to ensure that local organizations and stakeholders increase their network and collaboration to improve the well-being of citizens in informal settlements.
In her teaching role, she (co-) teaches courses like Evaluation of development policies, projects, and programs, sociology, and sustainable local economic development and promotion of local economic development and supervises research papers of graduate students.
Born and raised in Accra, Ghana Salomey holds a PhD in Development Studies from International Institute of Social studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and MA in Public Administration, and a BA in Philosophy and Study of Religion from the University of Ghana. During the time between her BA and MA Degrees she served in different capacities as a Development Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer with the Local Government Services in Ghana. She has implemented and monitored and evaluated several social -economic policies and projects with both local and international donor-funding agencies using participatory approaches and community collaborations.
