SEK (Sacha) Feierabend

Biography

Sacha Feierabend is a PhD candidate at the International Institute for Social Studies (ISS) at Erasmus University Rotterdam (The Netherlands).

His PhD research focuses on human rights and the global production network of lithium-ion batteries in the broader context of decarbonization policies. It involves multi-sited fieldwork in different geographies associated with battery and electric vehicle production and consumption (EV), such as lithium extraction sites in South America; battery assembly, consumption, and corporate headquarters in Europe; and other critical nodes along the midstream product network.

His research interests include the socio-environmental impacts of extractive industries, business and human rights, and climate and environmental justice.

He is also a Senior Researcher on Business, Human Rights and the Environment at the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), where he uses participatory action research methods to assess the human rights impacts of large-scale investment projects and advocates for stronger regulation of the impacts of global supply chains in various national and international fora.

He was co-coordinator of the Business and Human Rights Clinic at the University of Paris Saclay law faculty.
