K (Kate) O'Donnell

Biography

Kate is a PhD candidate at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam. Kate has previously worked in UNICEF as a consultant focusing on social protection and child poverty with a particular focus on analysis and advocacy around universal child benefits and the importance of linking humanitarian assistance and social protection. Prior to this Kate was part of a large-scale research project run by the UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights which focused on the issue of non-take-up of social protection rights. Kate has also worked for a number of years as a policy analyst in the Irish Ministry for Social Protection. Kate worked in the children and families unit of the Ministry and her work focused on designing income supports for children and single parent households. Kate holds a Msc. in Public Policy and Human Development from Maastricht University and a BA in History and Politics from University College Dublin. Kate’s research focuses on the political economy of social registries.
