This weekend, the International Institute of Social Studies welcomed the batch of MA participants, students in the MA in Development Studies, the Migration and Diversity Track and Mundus MA in Public Policy.
174 in total from all corners of the world.
Over the weekend, the new students were met by ISS staff and current students for their first impressions of life at ISS and in The Hague. Registration was followed by a look around the building, assignment of lodgings and generally just getting to know each other and ISS.
Over the next couple of weeks the students will follow an orientation programme, introducing them to their programme, teachers, ISS facilities (sport, social, pastoral, library, culinary), as well as dealing with practicalities such as registering as an inhabitant of The Hague and opening a Dutch bank account.
Opening ISS academic year
The week will close with the official opening of the academic year on Friday with guest speaker Aminata Cairo who will share what it means to be an academic foreigner in the Netherlands. The lecture is appropriately entitled 'And now it begins...'
