'The old is dying and the new is not yet born. The 2011 Egyptian revolution: labour, capital, time'
On Monday 19 December 2016, Sara Salem successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled 'The old is dying and the new is not yet born. The 2011 Egyptian revolution: labour, capital, time'.
In her thesis she tells the story of the 2011 Egyptian revolution through re-visiting and re-telling modern Egyptian history.
Starting from the events of the revolution itself, the aim has been to go back into Egyptian history in order to understand why the revolution happened when it did: why did it happen in 2011, and not 2020 or 1990? What led to such a momentous political crisis, and who were the social forces involved?
