On 21 November 2022, Dr Rodrigo Mena was awarded two prizes for his proposed research developing a Train the Trainers course in researcher safety and security in the field.
Winning prizes for both his idea and his pitch, Mena hopes to develop a Train the Trainers programme ensuring the safety and security of researchers when carrying out research in crisis and vulnerable conditions.
Mena presented his idea as a newspaper mock-up, highlighting the four main aspects of his proposal:
- The increasing unsafe environment researchers work in
- The value of the safety and security training already on offer
- The lack of other safety and security training opportunities for researchers
- The new Train the Trainers programme that he hopes to develop
On awarding the prize to Mena, Ed Brinksma, President of the Executive Board of EUR noted: "We were very impressed by your journal but also by your very clear case. We found your pitch the best. You used your newspaper to structure the message you wanted to present."
The other judges were Margo Strijdbosch (Director Erasmus Research Services), Marco Blik (Coordinator knowledge and research, Municipality of Rotterdam) and Judith Schueler (ACCEZ Stimulus Programme management, The Hague).
Erasmus Impact Journey
The prizes were awarded by Erasmus University Rotterdam's Erasmus Impact Journey. This is an initiative of Erasmus Research Services – Business Development & Knowledge Transfer which supports researchers in making the impact of their research tangible.
