Development of a local community currency 

Following its last biennial conference, RAMICS won the Japanese National Tourism Organization Award for hosting an international conference.

The award was the result of an initiative by RAMICS during it conference in Takayama-Hida in Japan to issue a community currency for use in the conference location. Conference participants also contributed labour to earn currency to spend in Takayama-Hida.

About RAMICS

RAMICS promotes international and interdisciplinary scientific exchange into community and complementary currencies. Dr Georgina Gomez, Associate Professor at the International Institute of Social Studies, is the President of RAMICS.
