The second ISS PhD Alumni webinar, held on Wednesday 22 September 2021, was small but beautiful. The conversations were robust and the analyses shared meaningful.

This session on 'Policy Responses to Mitigate Environmental Vulnerability and Promote Resilience'. brought together two presenters to talk about policy responses to environmental vulnerability, risk and resilience. Highlighted were the critical role of spatial planning to reduce flood risk in Brazil and the role of claims-making on local and national government in support of environmental rights and community resource management in India.

Presenters

Dr Marina Batalini de Macedo from the University of São Paulo, Brazil who talked about Trade-offs between flood risk and sanitation and their impact on health and well-being of population

Dr Sailaja Nandigama (gradauted from ISS in 2009) from BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus, Rajasthan, India, who addressed Responsibilization in natural resource governance: Does responsibilization lead to better forest management under FRA?
