Professor Wolfson served as Rector of ISS from 1986 to 1990 and later contributed as a member of the ISS Curatorium for approximately a decade, beginning in 1994.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of former ISS Rector Professor Dirk Jacob Wolfson, fondly known as Dik Wolfson, who passed away at the age of 91.
Professor Wolfson served as Rector of ISS from 1986 to 1990 and later contributed as a valued member of the ISS Curatorium for approximately a decade, beginning in 1994.
During his tenure, he played a vital role in strengthening ISS's research and education, working closely with colleagues and students from around the world. He was a dedicated leader and an important liaison between ISS, the Ministry of Education, and the broader academic community. Professor Wolfson was not only intellectually sharp and wise, but also known for his warm sense of humor and collegial spirit.
Even after his formal roles ended, he remained closely connected to ISS, often attending academic events such as the Dies Natalis, a testament to his lasting commitment to the institute.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children and grandchildren.
