ISS students explore refugee support in Belgium and France

Students from the Social Justice Perspectives group (SJP) recently visited organizations in Belgium and France that support refugees and migrants.

In Gent (Belgium) a group of activist artists explained how they had squatted a castle for homeless migrants, putting pressure on the municipality to provide regular housing.

In France the students visit Jesuit Refugee Services, an organization that accompanies citizens who would like to host refugees at their homes.

A highlight was the visit to the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Here the students were hosted by the youth programme that focuses on topics like civic engagement and sexuality education.

On the way back the students visited the three-country-point: the only point where Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands touch borders.
