ISS alumna Elisa Loncón to lead Chile's constitutional review

President-elect of the Constitutional Convention

An ISS and Mapuche leader, Elisa Loncón was elected president of the Constituent Convention of Chile, which will reform the country's Constitution for the first time in over 40 years.

Currently working at the University of Santiago, Chile, Elisa Loncón is an academic, linguist, activist for indigenous peoples. She graduated from the International Institute of Social Studies in 1987 with an MA in Development Studies specializing in Development Law and Social Justice.

Elisa Loncón is the first female president of the Constituent Convention which will have up to a year to agree a common rulebook, establish committees and draft a new text..
