Dr Oane Visser was one of the experts contributing to a European Parliament report entitled 'The role of commodity traders in agricultural markets'
The report was issued to examine the influence of commodity traders in the skyrocketing of global food prices following the war on Ukraine. It finds that the market clout of the largest global traders has substantially grown. In combination with the growing financialization of food trade, this has raised concern about speculation driving up food prices.
The report shows that significant gaps still exist in the supervision and regulation of food trade, both in physical and financial markets.
