Dr Lee Pegler to chair committee aimed at safeguarding and promoting decent social conditions for projects and populations involved in forest preservation, marine systems and cacao and chocolate value chains
Dr Pegler will chair the BKK (Bonfarto Kaj Konservado) Institute’s Social Development Committee. One of BKK's various committees, the role of the Social Development Committee is to develop realistic and solid indicators of social development for the various projects and populations BKK is involved with, including forest preservation, marine systems, cacao/chocolate value chains, and to be a watchdog on how well these work and are implemented in the various projects.
About Bonfarto Kaj Konservado
BKK promotes sustainable value chains in Brazil via better working conditions of work (especially for indigenous and local communities), environmental sustainability and more traceable processes to the consumer.
The BKK initiative is part of a socio-environmental project of the CBKK Company (Celo de Bonstato Kaj Konservado) in service of future generations. It aims to conserve landscapes such as the Brazilian marine & coastal areas and the Amazon region through the well-being of local communities, transforming them into the stewards of those regions.
BKK's founder, Stefano Arnhold, strongly believes in the transformation and integration of production chains, but always respecting the identity and individuality of each community; its traditions, its values, its ancestral and traditional knowledge as well as its intellectual and industrial properties. For both the Institute and Company names he therefore sought inspiration in Esperanto, a language developed in the 19th century as a 'universal second language'.
Bonfarto Kaj Konservado means well-being and conservation and Celo de Bonstato Kaj Konservado stands for well-being and conservation purpose. 'Having the purpose as part of our name is to constantly remind us of our commitment', explains Stefano Arnhold.
