On Thursday 16 January 2020 the International Institute of Social Studies attracted a large crowd in the Atrium to share stories on 'Decolonizing The Mind: What happened to you?'.
The annual storytelling event at ISS in collaboration with the International 'Winternachten' literature festival in The Hague, was organized for the 13th consecutive year. Writers, visitors, students and academics from all over the world shared their stories on how they had freed up their minds.
Among the participants were writer, poet, essayist and literary scholar Mukoma Wa Ngũgĩ - who was born in the US and grew up in Kenya, Asmaa Azaizeh, Palestinian poet and essayist, Zuleika Sheikh (PhD student from South Africa ) and Rosalba Icaza (Associate Professor, born in Mexico).
The stories were accompanied by master kora player Lamin Kuyateh (Gambia).
Many participants spontaneously shared their stories, creating a special atmosphere of imagination and inspiration.
