Capitalist system the cause of unsustainable development

Interview with Professor Max Spoor on OpenDemocracy website

ISS professor Max Spoor was interviewed by OpenDemocracy in the context of a roundtabel discussion on sustainable development.

In the short interview, he explains the difference between growth and development and argues that the capitalist system and its commoditization leads to exploitation of scarce resources.

He argues that policy makers should try and change the unsustainable logic of production which is based on the production, marketing, possession and discarding of products; products we do not necessarily need.
