Alumna Diane Irankunda awarded Best Paper by Journal of African Business

Diane Irankunda won the award for her paper entitled 'Financial Inclusion of Urban Street Vendors in Kigali'.

In the article, Diane Irankunda and her co-author, Professor Peter van Bergeijk, study street vendors Nyarugenge District (Kigali, Rwanda). They investigate the assumptions by policymakers about the determinants of financial inclusion of informal sector workers in order to strengthen the evidence base for Rwandan policies aimed at financial inclusion of the informal sector.

The article originally appeared in Volume 21(4) of the Journal of African Business and was winner of the Best Paper published in the journal in 2020. It is based on Diane Irankunda's research paper - 'Financial inclusion in the informal sector: A case study of street vendors in Kigali, Rwanda Nyarugenge District' - written as part of her MA in Development Studies at the International Institute of Social Studies.
