Based on the story of Eveline Herfkens, former minister for development cooperation (1998-2002), the symposium will examine how Minister Herfkens used a feminist approach throughout her career and as minister propagated feminist foreign policy avant la lettre.

The symposium will begin with a lecture by Marene Elgershuizen from the FEPS Young Academic Network Europe

The lecture will be followed by a conversation about what distinguishes Feminist Foreign Policy from previous approaches and what this policy might look like in practice.

Participating in the conversation are:

  • Marene Elgershuizen, FEPS Young Academic Network Europe
  • Saskia Ivenes, Feminist Foreign Policy researcher and consultant
  • Pascalle Grotenhuis, Ambassador for Women's Rights and Gender Equality, Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Rosalba Icaza, Professor of Global Politics, Feminisms and Decoloniality at the International Institute of Social Studies
