About our theme: Queering International Development

Our unique identities colour our lived experiences. Social scientists are often encouraged to exercise critical self-awareness to balance different perspectives in their research, but we don’t often hear much about researchers themselves. For examplewhat is it like to work as a queer social scientist in the field of international development? Is international development conducted through a heteronormative lens? And what are some of the challenges queer social scientists face in finding community and working with civil society?

In honour of Pride Month, our expert panel will highlight stories of their research experiences and projects geared toward LGBTQIA+ youth. We will also open the floor for you to pose questions directly to our panel. With this event, we aim to highlight queer projects and perspectives within the humanitarian arena, and build bonds of mutual recognition between practitioners and allies in international development.
