Francesco Alexander Bijoux (Italy/USA)
Mundus MA in Public Policy
Name: Francesco Alexander Bijoux
Major: Mundus MA in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP)
Country: Italy / USA
Background: I have a background in European Studies for my undergraduate degree. Before pursuing my master's, I attended Maastricht University from 2019 to 2022, where I also participated in the MaRBLe Excellence Programme, specializing in Public Policy. My experience in this program emerged my interest in public policy, therefore I applied for the Mundus Master of Arts in Public Policy.
Why study abroad?
Studying abroad has always been a natural choice for me, shaped by my upbringing and experiences. Being born and partially raised outside of Italy, even though I come from a small town in the North-East of the country, it gave me a global perspective early on. I never imagined staying in Italy permanently and have always imagined my future beyond its borders. However, living abroad has also made me appreciate where I come from, and I hope to return someday to bring back what I’ve learned and experienced.
Why ISS?
I chose ISS because I wanted to extend my stay in the Netherlands and because of the stellar reputation both ISS and Erasmus have in the world. When applying to the Mundus MAPP programme, I was attracted by the possibility of working alongside like-minded individuals
What is your experience with your major so far?
While we are a small group and probably the smallest major in the Institute, we have created a close community based on the principles of mutual solidarity. In layman's terms, "no marine is left behind". What makes Mundus unique is the closeness to our coordinator is both a mentor and professor, helping us develop as academics and future policy specialists.
What are your future plans?
I will attend the University of York in the UK to continue my programme. I am very excited about this opportunity and can not wait to begin. After that, I will try my luck with the EU and UN concours, hoping to work in one of these institutions.
