New Associate Professors at ISS

IB and the FCC are proud to inform you that as per 1 June 2018, ISS has four new Associate Professors.

ISS would like to congratulate all four colleagues on their achievements and wish them all the best in their future activities.

  • Natascha Wagner just realized her tenure track agreement.

    Her research interests are:

    • International economics
    • Development
    • Health

    Natscha Wagner has been involved in several impact evaluation projects in Africa and Asia, and more recently an impact assessment of the long-term effects of quality improvements in Philippine public hospitals. She also teaches econometrics and development microeconomics at ISS.

  • Roy Huijsmans was successful in the 2018 internal UHD promotion round.

    He teaches several courses at ISS, some of his research interest are:

    • State-child/youth relations in post-socialist contexts
    • Rural childhood & youth and agrarian transformations
    • Family and household studies
    • Conceptualising age and generation
    • Work and education
    • Youth and mobile/digital technology

  • Rosalba Icaza was successful in the 2018 internal UHD promotion round.

    In addition to teaching at ISS, her research interests are:

    • Decolonial thinking and 'the international'
    • Thinking the academia in the promotion of autonomy
    • Learning as liberation/liberation of learning
    • Plural feminisms for plural liberations

    She explains her research agenda as one that seeks to understand how place-based social resistances contribute to global epistemic justice. As a result, she is not circumscribed to a particular discipline anymore and her latest publications have had a variety of target audiences.

  • Karim Kniou was successful in the 2018 internal UHD promotion round.

    Apart from teaching, Karim Kniou's research interests are:

    • Institutional Analysis
    • Varieties of Capitalism(s)
    • Social Ontology
    • Pedagogy of Crisis, Symptomatology and Learning
    • Euro-Mediterranean Politics
