Sustainable structural transformation in Latin America - mural

During this discussion organized by the International Institute of Social Studies and Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Global, panelists will exchange views on how Latin America can move away from its dependence on primary commodity extraction.

Latin America is home to some of the most important political, economic and environmental policy debates and innovations.

These policies aim to respond to multiple crises: of climate change, economic inequality, and social inclusion to name just a few. These crises are deeply intertwined with the challenge of balancing socio-economic development with environmental sustainability.

While there is broad agreement that Latin America needs to move away from its dependence on primary commodity extraction, the direction of such a transition and how it can be achieved remain as open questions.

The members of this panel will reflect on these highly topical questions.
