Biography
Saba Al Kuntar is a Syrian PhD Candidate at the International Institute of Social Studies ( ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She received her MA in Migration Studies and Intercultural Relations from Oldenburg University in 2015 and her BA in History from Damascus University in 2007. She has experience working with INGOs and UN agencies (UNICEF, Danish Refugee Council, UNRWA) in the Middle East. She specialized in planning and implementing educational programmes for refugee students as well as vocational training for youth. Her current scholarly research and fieldwork are on refugee-led economic activities. Her PhD research focuses on refugee entrepreneurship through the case study of Syrian refugee entrepreneurs in Lebanon. The research explores the experience of refugee entrepreneurs in setting up businesses amid uncertain conditions. The project includes topics such as refugee urban economy, social networks, self-reliance approach.
