L (Lorenza) Arango Vasquez

Biography

Lorenza Arango is a PhD researcher at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS, The Hague) of Erasmus University Rotterdam. She is member of a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant awarded project "Commodity & Land Rushes and Regimes: Reshaping Five Spheres of Global Social Life (RRUSHES-5)" led by Professor Jun Borras. As part of this project, she is working on the interactions between contemporary commodity/land rushes and the politics of food, labour (and migration) and citizenship in Colombia.

She also completed her MA in Development Studies at ISS (2018). Her master thesis explores the political economy of ordinary indebtedness, discipline and economic growth in rural Colombia. 

Lorenza’s research experience and interests include likewise the study of socio-environmental conflicts resulting from extractive industries in Latin America, and of land and labour politics in relation to ethnic communities in Colombia. She holds a BA in Political Science and International Relations.
